The Golden Reunion

So where do you start to describe a weekend such as the 15-17 January 2010. The first and most obvious is to once again thank Trevor and Heather Fielder for their very hard work in making the weekend such a seamless operation that it turned out to be. Their hard labours made it possible for the rest of us to attend and make the weekend the success it was. Thanks to to Clive Upton, our Senior Man, who gave an excellent speech extolling the members of the 94 Th of Halton. For a time there I could hardly recognise myself being in such exalted company and even my wife looked at me through different eyes for a good five minutes. Then there are the attendees without whom there would not have been a celebration. Monty Zoomer and his Sunshine band, featuring the guitars of Geoff Cheers and Mike Barker who entertained us royally on both Friday and Saturday nights. A special thanks to to our wives and partners who allowed us boys to return to out teenage years to relive the past. What would we do without them ? To Carl and Ian, who due to the modern technology were able to join us in part over the Internet to join in the festivities from North America.
On a personal level, I enjoyed the company of Sherry, the sole electrician amongst the number who proudly represented his trade. He and his charming wife pointed me in the right direction for the best pint in the hotel. To Keith and Trevor [Evans] for indulging me by talking about my passion, football, to Colin Fosberry and his wife Sylvia with whom we enjoyed much banter over the dinner, where I gained yet another nickname, and to Terry and Linda and Willy and Margery Welch who did likewise. As a rigger my thanks to the plumbers who attended in numbers. As the evening drew to a close one of them, Barrie Peterson, over a couple of bottles of single malt, invited me to become an honorary armourer, an honour I must decline for trade reasons, and the evening ended at 03.30 when the last three standing, Mike Barker, Colin Fosberry, armourers, and myself called it a draw and left the room together.

Sunday morning and after a lingering breakfast we said our fond but sad farewells. I hope we all meet somewhere along the road of life again soon and especially in September to march again up the Hill under the banner so efficiently designed and supplied by Al Brooks.
Thanks to everyone who attended and I will raise my glass on January 20 th to St Sebastian and the 94 Th Entry of Aircraft Apprentices

My pleasure Ian. I only wish that I had the time and space to name every single person that I talked to over the weekend.
